Ride Rules
- All riders must complete a Ride Waiver and turn it in to our Sergeant at Arms before you will be permitted to participate in a Chapter ride.
-
As per Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), guidelines: STAR Touring & Riding Association suggest, at a minimum, the following riding attire when participating in a Chapter event:
DOT approved helmet
Eye protection
Gloves
Long pants
Long sleeve shirt (preferred, but not required)
Foot protection that covers the ankle
-
All bikes will be maintained in a safe condition. Motorcycles with malfunctioning lights, brakes, or worn tires (less than 2/32”) tread) will not be permitted to participate in the Chapter ride.
-
All motorcycles must be topped off with fuel prior to arriving at our designated meeting area.
-
New riders to the group will be assigned a “Shepherd” who will be responsible for explaining ride rules, formations, hand signals, answering questions about STAR Touring & Riding Association and our Chapter, and in general insuring that the new rider is, and feels welcomed into the group.
-
Alcohol and illegal drugs will never be tolerated while on a Chapter ride. For the safety of the group, any participant that chooses not to follow this rule will be asked to leave the group for the remainder of the ride and may be subject to removal from the Chapter.
-
All traffic laws will be strictly obeyed.
-
When riding in a group, the normal riding formation will be a staggered formation with the following exceptions: 1) when the Road Captain signals for a single file formation and 2) when coming to a stop at which time riders will stop side-by-side in order to save space. If the ride formation before the stop was single file, and the Road Captain wishes for the group to go back to single file, he/she will signal this when the group is rolling again.
-
In the absence of our Sergeant at Arms, one rider will be designated to fill this position for the purpose of keeping the peace, enforcing Chapter and Charter rules, and the collection of monies for tolls, etc.
-
One or more riders will be designated as Road Captains. They shall ride in the front left position in the group and lead each group using hand and/or foot signals to keep the group together, point out hazards, etc.
-
One or more riders will be designated as Tail Gunners. The Tail Gunner is responsible for keeping all riders in formation. Should a rider need to leave the formation, only the Tail gunner will stop to assist the rider.
-
Riders who elect to drop out of the ride before the final destination will notify the Tail Gunner before doing so, and will “tap out” at their point of departure.
